Alas Ruth didn't win the Best Actress award at the Bafta's last night, but she will be in Philistines at the National Theatre and she gave an interview to whatsonstage.com, which you can read here.

Philistines has opened now and my paper (The Indpendent) gave it a very good review and four stars today!! They didn't really single anyone out, just said it was a great new production and impeccably acted.
I'll be at the National on 14 July, but its to see St Joan with Anne Marie Duff et al, not Philistines. We got really good tickets - looks like we are about six rows from the front, so will need to take sweeties with silent wrappers lol!

Actually, I just read the Independent review PROPERLY (sorry its Friday afternoon, I'm knackere and I need to get out of this bloody office) and it in fact says this about Ruth Wilson's performance:-
"The play is a fascinating compendium of the different ways in which people respond to, fail to respond to or resist change. The excellent Ruth Wilson pulls you right inside the suffocating plight of the depressive daughter, Tanya, a teacher who is ready and waiting for the radical new century, but can't find either the courage to enter it alone or the lover who will drag her into it, and so nurses a permanent grudge".

Have fun at St Joan, and be careful with the choice of sweets you take! I'm at a loss to suggest any good ones, maybe toffee eclairs that have already been dewrapped prior to the performance. But you may just end up with one *giant* toffee monster that has to be prised apart, only with the help of others in your row....

Thanks for the strategic sweets advice. I have decide to go for a jumbo sized Mars Bar which I shall lick all over as soon as I get the wrapping off, so that I don't have to offer a bite to the rest of my party :)
Hope you manage go get those show jumping cows out of your head some time soon! I think a pretty good cure is to play some Toby Stephens videos, preferrably in very slow motion
